Canada FBM2020 was established in 2017 in collaboration with the Association of Canadian Publishers and l’Association nationale des éditeurs de livres after the Government of Canada accepted the invitation to be Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2020. Canada FBM2020 manages the role and involvement of the Canadian book publishing industry for the Guest of Honour presentation, including the official literary programme featuring Canadian writers from coast-to-coast-to-coast.

»Canada FBM2020’s goals include increasing the visibility and discoverability of francophone, anglophone, and Indigenous literatures of Canada for the German reading public. One of our objectives was to have at least 200 Canadian-authored and -illustrated books translated and available on the German market by our Guest of Honour year«, explains Gillian Fizet, Executive Director of Canada FBM2020. »Following the combined efforts of both the Canadian and German publishing industries, we are delighted to report that there are presently over 300 titles currently or soon-to-be-published in Germany.«
